Nationals (National Park)
Also known as: National Park
The points' fast, rock-hugging right - lights up only on real swell and rewards the advanced with long, linking walls where the crowd finally thins.
Best time to surf
Summer cyclone swells and E groundswells (~Dec-Apr); autumn clean; inconsistent between swells
Shoulder season: Needs size, so quieter/less reliable in flat shoulder spells; rewards the bigger autumn swells
The wave
Break type: Point break (right)
Bottom: Sand over rock point (breaks close to the rocks)
Wave direction: Right-hand point
Typical wave length: Fast right; long peeling rides on bigger days with linked sections and the occasional barrel
Ideal swell: E/ENE swell; needs solid swell to turn on and hold shape; best on E/SE cyclone swells
Ideal wind: Offshore SW/S
Working tide: Low to mid tide (breaks more consistently with better shape)
Difficulty & skill
Difficulty (1-5): 4
Skill level: Advanced when big (breaks near rocks, fast/powerful); fun for competent intermediates when small
Options for a mixed group: Intermediates drop back to First Point/Tea Tree; only advanced stay when it is sizable
Safety & hazards
Rocks (the wave breaks close to them), speed/power, crowds; sharks/jellyfish noted generally
Nearest patrol Noosa Heads SLSC (Main Beach); Noosa Hospital, Noosaville; 000 (the points themselves are unpatrolled)
Crowd, access & conditions
Crowd & localism: Crowded on its day; a more experienced lineup than First Point
Access & parking: Noosa National Park coastal track (Boiling Pot / National Park section, a few minutes past First Point); limited Park Rd/Hastings St parking
Surf schools & rental: Noosa operators for hire/coaching (Merrick's, Go Ride A Wave, Surfdancer); an advanced-only wave, not a beginner-lesson spot
Water temp & wetsuit: Subtropical; summer ~24-27 C, winter ~20-22 C; boardshorts/shorty most of year, springsuit on winter mornings
Crowds, access and local conditions change - confirm locally before you paddle out.
