Accessibility & group fit

Historically marketed for riders of all levels and families; now framed as guided family e-bike tours under the private club.

The riding

Terrain

Natural Catskill Mountain singletrack, machine-built flow, rock gardens/rock faces and roots; primary type all-mountain and downhill on ski-resort land.

Technical demands

Citizen's Downhill is an expert-only rugged natural course; the UCI Windham World Cup DH track was known for a steep, rooty, off-camber wooded finish. Trails feature drops, rock faces, rock gardens, berms and jumps.

Navigation

Ski-resort signage with difficulty-graded markers off the high-speed quad; lift-served layout easy to follow. Trailforks digital map.

Crowds

Was a busy regional gravity hub during operation; now effectively no public access (closed / members-only tours).

Season & conditions

Open window

Downhill bike park PERMANENTLY CLOSED (Trailforks: closed as of Apr 30, 2026; shut Oct 2023). Historic window was late May to mid-October. Present-day biking is guided e-bike/MTB tours for Members and lodging Guests only, not a public lift-served park.

Best season

Summer to early fall; Trailforks ride-log peak months July, August and October.

Seasonal specials

Hosted UCI MTB World Cup through the 2010s - reported five World Cup Downhills plus two World Cup Cross Country races (DH rounds 2010-2015 era; XCO notably 2014 and 2015); helped return the World Cup to the USA.

Catskills summer thunderstorms, humidity, rapid trail wetting; mud/variable surface after rain.

Getting there & gear

Historic bike-park day ticket approx $36 USD (no lottery). Now a membership/lodging model - biking is a Member/Guest amenity (guided tours), no published public DH price.

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.

Trailhead access

19 Resort Drive, Windham, NY 12496; roughly 2.5-3 hr drive from NYC via NY Thruway to the Catskills.

Transport & shuttles

Uplift was via a high-speed quad chairlift (no pedaling uphill); no public bike-lift service currently operating.

Bike & gear

Facilities

Base lodge, The Shop (retail/rental), dining, wellness/spa, golf, fly fishing, sporting clays and webcams; full resort base area.

Operators

Windham Mountain Outfitters (local bike shop); nearby ridable networks include Elm Ridge Wild Forest, Huckleberry Trail Network and Tannersville-Hathaway.

Hazards & rescue

Hazards

Expert DH terrain (drops, rock faces, steep chutes) when open; primary present-day note is that the park is CLOSED - do not plan a public downhill trip.

Guiding

Formerly self-guided lift-served park; now mandatory expert-guided only, for Members and lodging Guests.

Emergency & rescue

Resort ski-patrol/mountain-safety infrastructure exists; no bike-park-specific patrol currently since the park is closed.
