Revolution Bike Park

Also known as: Llangynog

Steep forested valley-side above Llangynog village in the Berwyn Mountains, mid/north Wales; often likened to 'a taste of the Alps' and one of the UK's biggest, fastest uplift bike parks. Viewpoints over the Tanat valley.

Distance
Park-level, not a single loop: roughly 9.6 km (6 miles) of total descent trail across ~20 mapped lines; individual top-to-bottom runs are short (approx 1.5-2.5 km). (est)
Descent
280 m
Climb
0 m
Typical time
A single descent run takes only a few minutes (many trails 3-5 min); a booked uplift day is a full 10am-4pm session of repeated laps.

Who in your group rides what

Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Revolution Bike Park - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.

What this network spans
Grades 2 to 52-5 ('what downhill bikes are made for')
Local grading

UK/Euro colour system: blue/red (fast, flowing, machine-built freeride), black (rocky, rooty, technical) and pro lines (steep, jumps, drops, gaps). Van uplift, descent-only; a limited 'Push Up' pedal pass is offered on some days.

Zones & variants

GROUP SPLIT - Beginner/less-confident: stick to the machine-built red Freeride/flow lines and ride within the uplift-serviced network; take the shuttle down or session lower sections. Advanced: link the black tech trails and pro lines (Vision Line, Ffar Side, Bob Ffather). All riders share the van uplift for the climb; trails are descent-only so 'turnaround' is simply reloading the uplift at the top.

Accessibility & group fit

Best for confident intermediate-to-expert gravity riders; not a beginner or family cross-country venue despite one 'family friendly' tag. Under-12s must be accompanied and have a parent/guardian-signed Acceptance of Risk; 12-16 need an adult on site; 17-18 may ride unaccompanied with signed AOR.

The riding

Terrain

Mix of machine-built flow (berms, tables, jumps) and natural steep singletrack over roots, loam, mud and rock gardens on a ~120-acre wooded/felled hillside at the foot of the Berwyn range; gravel fire-road uplift track.

Technical demands

Natural steep downhill terrain with roots, loam, rock gardens, berms, tabletops, drops and road/gap jumps (e.g. Vision Line). Exposure is mainly to steep gradient and jump/drop consequences rather than cliff fall.

Navigation

No route-finding needed - it is a contained managed park with signed graded trails and up-to-date trail maps posted on site before you ride; staff brief riders. Trailforks map available as backup.

Crowds

Uplift numbers are strictly limited so it often feels like having the park to yourself; can be busy on event weekends and pedal-pass days. Ride-log counters are modest, indicating generally uncrowded midweek/quiet periods.

Season & conditions

Open window

Typically open Friday-Sunday, 10am-4pm (uplift and pedal-pass), across the year subject to weather and the ongoing park rebuild; snow is rarely a prolonged closure factor at this ~450 m Welsh elevation.

Best season

Rideable year-round on operating days; Trailforks ride-log data shows October, June and April as the most popular months. Late spring to autumn offers the driest, grippiest conditions.

Seasonal specials

Hosts events and gravity jams (e.g. World Series race weekends, women's gravity jams); park is in a phased rebuild/refresh after 2023 disease-related tree felling, with new lines (e.g. a 'Continental' line and refreshed Red Freeride) being added - check socials for current status.

Welsh-mountain weather: frequent rain making roots and rock slick, mud, low cloud/poor visibility and wind on the exposed upper hillside; trails can be ridden wet but grip and consequence change markedly.

Getting there & gear

Paid entry only: uplift GBP 50 per rider per day, plus cheaper 'Push Up'/pedal-pass tickets on some days; book online in advance. Mandatory online Acceptance of Risk form before arrival; no lottery.

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.

Trailhead access

On the outskirts of Llangynog village, Powys (postcode SY10 0EP); reached via the B4391 from Oswestry/Welshpool (east) or Bala/Berwyn mountain road (west), then a turn near the single-lane bridge and ~300 m to the park on the left. Private property - no riding outside opening hours.

Transport & shuttles

On-site vehicle uplift is the core offering - Land Rover Defenders towing bike-specific trailers, each lap up taking roughly 10-15 minutes; GBP 50 per rider per day. No public transport to speak of; drive and park on site.

Bike & gear

Full-face helmet and knee pads are compulsory; a downhill/gravity bike in good order is strongly recommended and clean bikes/kit are requested to limit tree disease. Carry water; mobile signal in the valley is limited/patchy. (est)

Facilities

On-site bike shop, an on-site food/drink cabin/cafe, and rider registration; parking on site (public car park also in the village). Uplift base with staff.

Operators

Nearby MTB hubs: Llandegla (OnePlanet Adventure, ~19 km), Dee Valley/Llangollen (~15 km), Oswestry trails (~15 km), Llyn Brenig and Foel Gasnach (~19 km). WeRideMTB skills coaching operate at the park.

Hazards & rescue

Hazards

Steep, fast, jump- and drop-heavy DH terrain with real crash consequences - armour essential; slick roots/rock when wet; private land with strict opening hours and age rules; ongoing rebuild means available trails change frequently - confirm on the day.

Guiding

No guide required - staffed managed park with an uplift crew. Coaching is available locally (e.g. WeRideMTB skills coaching operate there); minors need adult supervision per age rules.

Emergency & rescue

Contained park with fire-road access throughout, so casualties can be reached and evacuated by staff/uplift vehicles; call 999 for ambulance/mountain rescue in serious cases. Park office/mobile 07983 118024 (Fri-Sun).
