Also known as: Muju Resort
Deogyusan National Park backdrop; Seolcheonbong gondola and summit pavilion; Hyangjeokbong panoramas (by hiking); Alps-style resort village; nearby Muju firefly area and Gucheon-dong valley.

Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Muju (Deogyusan) - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.
Korean disciplines used at events here: keuroseu-keonteuri (XC), daunhil (DH), 4-keuroseu (4-X), syupeo-D (Super-D) and XCE. No per-trail colour grading published.
GROUP SPLIT: the resort base is the natural regroup point - stronger riders session the ski-slope/DH venue while others ride the graded county forest roads (imdo) or take the gondola for sightseeing; turn-around at base facilities.
Resort infrastructure (hotels, parking, gondola, food) makes it a family/group-friendly base; venue has hosted mass-participation events (approx 1,800 racers in 2013). Actual rideable-terrain difficulty varies.
Ski-slope grass, gravel/dirt service roads, graded forest-road (imdo) hardpack, and built DH dirt.
Mixed: low-technicality ski-slope grass/service-road climbs plus purpose-built DH lines. High sun/weather exposure on open alpine slopes above treeline; forest sections sheltered.
During events courses are taped and marshalled. Outside events there is no confirmed permanent MTB waymarking; ski-piste layout aids orientation.
Busy in ski season and during events/festivals; green-season MTB traffic generally low (quiet mid-week).
Snow-free window roughly late April to early November (est).
Green season (spring to autumn); ski season occupies the slopes roughly December to early March. Autumn noted for foliage and cycling events.
Muju Firefly Festival (near Namdae-cheon, historically late August/early September); autumn foliage on Deogyusan; winter rime-ice scenery via the gondola; Muju Gran Fondo road event in October.
High-elevation exposure with rapid weather change and cold/wind near 1500 m; summer monsoon (jangma, roughly late June-July) heavy rain; typhoon risk Aug-Sep; deep winter snow/ice.
No lottery. Resort access free; gondola and lifts ticketed; national-park entry free. IMPORTANT: bicycles are prohibited on national-park hiking trails under the Natural Parks Act - ride only sanctioned resort terrain and county forest roads.
Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
From Seoul: intercity/express bus from Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal to Muju Bus Terminal, approx 2.5-3 hr. From Daejeon (nearest KTX city) approx 45 min via Hwy 35. No rail station in Muju; taxi or resort shuttle from the terminal to the resort.
Resort runs a free shuttle between Muju-eup terminal and the resort in peak (ski) season. On-mountain gondola to Seolcheonbong approx 1520 m (operates in summer; reservation system Oct-Feb). Bike carriage on the gondola not confirmed.
Full amenities (water, food, retail) at the base; carry water for forest-road loops. Coverage good at resort/town, patchy on remote imdo/high slopes.
Hotels, condos, restaurants, Carnival Street shopping mall, spa/hot spring, parking, tennis, horse riding and MTB - all on the resort.
Korea Mountain Bike Federation signed an MOU with Muju County (14 Jul 2025) to develop Muju as Korea's MTB hub - a credible primary contact for current course status. Muju County tourism office; Korea MTB Association historically sanctioned events here.
Do not ride national-park summit hiking trails (prohibited and enforced); high-alpine weather; monsoon/typhoon season. Whether the resort MTB terrain is a permanently open bike park or an event-only venue is unresolved (VERIFY with the resort or Korea MTB Federation).
None required for resort/forest-road riding; self-sufficient riding is fine.
Resort medical/patrol in season; KNPS manages park rescue; Muju town clinics/hospital; dial 119.
