UK/Euro grading system (Trailforks): green / blue / red / black. Bikepark Albstadt flow and downhill lines are graded blue to black.
GROUP SPLIT: stronger riders can lap the full technical XCO circuit / choose black Bikepark lines while others ride the shorter marked Bullentaele valley loop or take easier B-lines (the Mitas Abyss section has a longer B-line). All meet at the central Bullentaele Festplatz / chillout area, which is a natural regroup and turnaround hub.
Good spread for mixed groups: gentle marked valley loops and green tour options for beginners, technical XCO features and graded Bikepark lines for advanced riders. E-bikes supported on some marked routes.
The riding
Mixed forest singletrack, meadow/grass sections and short asphalt straights; roots, rock gardens and constructed features (north-shore, bridges, drops). Bikepark lines are machine-built flow plus technical natural terrain.
XCO lap is physical with short steep climbs and technical descents (named sections: Mitas Abyss/Devil's Corner, Mercedes-Benz North Shore, Albstadt Drop, Bundeswehr Slalom). Bikepark adds berms, drops, jumps, ladder bridges and rock gardens. Exposure is generally low (forest/meadow), hazards are surface- and feature-based.
The competition arena in the Bullentaele is freely accessible and signed as the marked MTB tour 'Bullentaele'; wider Bikezone Albstadt tours are waymarked. Race lap features are permanent and easy to follow; Trailforks mapping available.
Quiet on ordinary days (Trailforks logs only a handful of rides per week); becomes extremely crowded on UCI World Cup weekends with international fans. Bikepark busier on operating days/weekends.
Season & conditions
Roughly April-October for reliable dry riding; the arena is freely accessible year-round but the higher Schwaebische Alb sees winter snow (the area also has ski-lift/langlauf winter use). (est)

Recurring UCI Mountain Bike World Cup XCO/XCC venue, hosting since 2013 and typically the season opener; ran annually through 2022, was off the 2023 calendar, then returned (2024, 2025 and on the 2026 UCI calendar). The 2020 UCI XCO World Championships were awarded to Albstadt but relocated to Leogang, Austria due to COVID-19.
Notorious for mud - races here are frequently wet ('peanut butter mud'); heavy rain makes descents slick and rooty sections dangerous, while past editions have also seen extreme heat causing rider exhaustion. Exposed grass field sections can be windy.
Getting there & gear
The Bullentaele arena and marked MTB tours are free and freely accessible. Bikepark Albstadt (lift-served lines) charges for lift/day tickets. No lottery. World Cup spectating requires paid event tickets.

Free asphalt parking at Parkplatz Bullentaele, Albstadt-Truchtelfingen, an optimal start point for the Bullentaele MTB trail. During the World Cup there is no visitor parking directly at the site - organisers use Park & Ride lots with shuttle buses.
A drag/ski lift operates in summer to carry Bikepark riders to the downhill start tower. During World Cup events, official Park & Ride shuttle buses serve the venue. Albstadt is reachable by road between Stuttgart and Lake Constance, with regional rail to Albstadt.
Standard XC/trail MTB; protective gear (full-face, pads) advised for Bikepark lines. On-site Bikepark team offers bike check, rental of bikes/protectors, and food/drinks at the chillout area. Mobile coverage good (populated valley). Carry water for longer marked tours.
Bullentaele Festplatz event ground with chillout/snack area, drinks and cakes, bike workshop/repair, and rental at Bikepark Albstadt; toilets and full town amenities nearby in Truchtelfingen/Tailfingen. Tourist information: Marktstrasse 35, Albstadt-Ebingen.
Bikezone Albstadt / Bikepark Albstadt-Tailfingen (rental, lift, workshop); Albstadt Tourismus is the central organising hub and runs MTB courses/experiences. Local guesthouses (Gasthof Linde) support the marked tours.
Hazards & rescue
Slippery mud and roots when wet, constructed features with abrupt landings (bridges/drops), and shared use with hikers/spectators. Bikepark black lines carry drop/jump risk. Respect closures during event build-up and races.
None required - self-guided riding. Guided MTB courses/experiences are offered seasonally via Albstadt Tourismus (Albstaedter Outdoor-Sommer program).
Compact valley venue close to town with good road access, so evacuation is straightforward; German emergency number 112. Multiple trail exits lead back to the central Festplatz/car park. (est)
