Who in your group rides what

Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Ourimbah MTB - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.

What this network spans
Grades 1 to 41-4 (green to black)
Local grading

Green (novice) through Blue (intermediate) to Black (advanced); includes DH runs

Zones & variants

Beginners stay on green/blue XC loops near the trailhead; advanced riders shuttle Scaddens Ridge Road for descent-only Gravity Zone laps.

Accessibility & group fit

Good for mixed-ability groups given green-to-black spread; families use easier XC loops and the pump track.

The riding

Terrain

State-forest singletrack on clay and rock through eucalypt forest; XC, all-mountain and DH surfaces.

Technical demands

Full spectrum from smooth XC to rocky black DH with jumps and drops; Gravity Zone descents are steep and technical.

Navigation

Signposted and colour-graded trailheads; well mapped on Trailforks. Dense network of intersecting trails can disorient first-timers.

Crowds

Busy on weekends and event days; quieter midweek given the extensive network.

Season & conditions

Open window

Open all year; no snow. Trails can close temporarily after heavy rain.

Best season

Year-round; drier autumn to spring generally best. October is the most popular ride month per Trailforks logs.

Seasonal specials

Hosts AusCycling NSW Gravity Series and club race events. Pump track for skills practice.

Heavy east-coast rain causes muddy, slippery clay and temporary closures; summer heat and humidity.

Getting there & gear

Free to ride; maintained by Central Coast MTB Club under a Forestry Corporation of NSW forest permit.

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.

Trailhead access

Sealed then gravel access off Red Hill Road, Ourimbah; parking and shelter at the designated trailhead ~350 m up the road.

Transport & shuttles

Commercial DH shuttles via Transition Extreme (approx AUD 50 half-day / 75 full-day) and Central Coast Mountain Bike Tours.

Bike & gear

Carry own water; full-suspension recommended for gravity trails. Patchy mobile coverage in gullies.

Facilities

Drop toilets, shelter and dirt pump track at the trailhead; no cafe on site.

Operators

Central Coast MTB Club (CCMTB), Transition Extreme, Central Coast Mountain Bike Tours.

Hazards & rescue

Hazards

Shared with horses, hikers and trail bikes; slippery clay when wet and fast gravity features.

Guiding

None required; self-guided. Guided and shuttle options available commercially.

Emergency & rescue

Fire and management roads provide exits to Red Hill Road; call 000 in emergency, limited signal in gullies.
