Who in your group rides what

Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Lenzerheide - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.

What this network spans
Grades 1 to 51-5 (green to double-black; World Cup DH and 2018 Worlds course)
Local grading

Standard European park system - green / blue / red / black plus flow-vs-technical character; park lines branded FLOWline, PRIMEline, SHOREline, STYLEline and STRAIGHTline.

Zones & variants

Group split at the mid-station (Scharmoin) and top (Rothorn) - beginners lap green/blue flow from mid-station while advanced riders take the upper Rothorn zone; everyone reconverges at the valley base.

Accessibility & group fit

Strong group fit - a single lift network serves all abilities so mixed groups ride the same uplift then split by grade. Family/beginner options (Skill Center, pump track, kids trails, Learning Lab) sit alongside expert DH.

The riding

Terrain

Mix of machine-groomed berms/jumps, wooden shore features and natural alpine singletrack over roots, rock slabs and loose sections; high alpine gravel/scree up top, forest loam lower down.

Technical demands

Ranges from smooth bermed flow to steep, rooty, rocky natural DH and jump/gap lines (STRAIGHTline includes road gaps with chicken lines). Upper Rothorn alpine terrain is more exposed and rugged; lower forest trails more sheltered.

Navigation

Well-signed, colour-graded trails with on-mountain signage; the free Bike Kingdom app plus Trailforks give live maps and lift/trail status. Low route-finding difficulty.

Crowds

Busy on peak summer weekends and event weeks around the park base; solitude increases on longer enduro/tour trails and midweek. The lift-served park zone is the busiest node.

Season & conditions

Open window

Bike park operates approximately mid-May to late October (2026: opened ~17 May, gondolas through ~25 Oct); extended Late Shred evening lift hours early July to mid-August.

Best season

Summer to autumn - roughly June through September, with September (crisp, stable, autumn colour) a highlight.

Seasonal specials

Host of the 2018 UCI MTB World Championships (XCO and Downhill) and a regular annual UCI Mountain Bike World Series / World Cup stop (XCO and DH) since 2015. Also hosts events such as Red Bull Downtime and the Bike Kingdom Opening.

Alpine high-elevation exposure - fast-moving thunderstorms, cold and wind at the Rothorn (~2800 m+), and lift/trail closures for storms or early/late-season snow.

Getting there & gear

No lottery. Bike/lift passes sold as tiered 1-7 day Bike Kingdom tickets plus a Late Shred evening ticket; online booking ~6% cheaper than at the counter. Part of the Gravity Card network; exact prices vary by season.

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.

Trailhead access

In Lenzerheide village, canton Graubunden. Nearest city is Chur (~15-20 km / ~20-30 min by road) on the Swiss rail network; reach Lenzerheide by PostBus from Chur or by car via the Lenzerheide road. Chur is itself a Bike Kingdom hub (Alpenbikepark Chur).

Transport & shuttles

Lift-served via Lenzerheide Bergbahnen - Rothornbahn 1 gondola (valley-Scharmoin) and Rothornbahn 2 cable car (Scharmoin-Parpaner Rothorn), plus Heidbuel and other lifts; the Urdenbahn cable car links the Lenzerheide and Arosa sides. Bike-carrying gondolas with regional bus/train integration.

Bike & gear

Full-face helmet and protective gear strongly advised for the gravity park; water/food at base and mountain restaurants. Mobile coverage generally good in the resort and the Bike Kingdom app is used on-trail; carry layers for the cold exposed summit.

Facilities

Rothorn valley-station base has a large Skill Center, pump track, kids trails and Learning Lab; mountain restaurants (Portal, zBar, Acla Grischuna, Pradaschier); bike rental, shops, repair and bike wash typical of the base.

Operators

Lenzerheide Bergbahnen / Arosa Bergbahnen run the lifts; wider Bike Kingdom hubs are Arosa and Chur (Alpenbikepark Chur), with trail-building by firms such as Trailworks.

Hazards & rescue

Hazards

Steep/exposed alpine DH, jumps and gaps (use chicken lines), high-speed flow with other riders, alpine weather swings and altitude at the Rothorn. Ride within grade and obey the Code of Ride and Fairtrail rules for shared hiking/biking trails.

Guiding

None required - a fully signed, self-guided lift park; guiding, coaching and camps are optional via local bike schools.

Emergency & rescue

Lift infrastructure and service roads provide bail-out/egress points at mid- and base stations; resort/lift operations and Swiss mountain rescue (REGA air rescue, emergency 1414/112) cover the area.
