GROUP SPLIT: less-experienced riders stick to wide Kali Gandaki jeep tracks / salt-trade routes; advanced riders shuttle high and ride the Lubra Valley enduro descents (descent-only via jeep uplift).
Suited to fit, experienced riders comfortable at altitude; not a beginner destination, though jeep tracks offer easier linkages. VERIFY.
The riding
High-altitude desert: loose gravel, sandy jeep tracks, rocky technical singletrack, ancient salt-trade routes and canyon trails.
Loose, rocky, playful high-desert singletrack with technical switchbacks, exposure and altitude; committing and remote.
No formal waymarking; expeditions are fully guided along salt-trade routes and jeep tracks.

Season & conditions
Roughly March-November; high passes can hold snow early/late season and winter is cold. (est)
March-May and September-November; Mustang's rain-shadow keeps it rideable when monsoon soaks the rest of Nepal.
Urge downhill race region and featured in Pinkbike's Anthill film; classic post-monsoon riding while lower Nepal is wet.
Strong afternoon Kali Gandaki winds, extreme dryness/dust, cold nights, and altitude effects; occasional snow at passes.
Getting there & gear
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) required; Upper Mustang needs a Restricted Area Permit (approx USD 500 for 10 days) plus guide - Lower Mustang does not. VERIFY current fees.
Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
Access via Pokhara then flight or jeep to Jomsom; Lower Mustang reachable by road, Upper Mustang requires permits.
Jeep shuttles on the Kali Gandaki road provide uplift for descents; expeditions arrange all transport. VERIFY.
Enduro/all-mountain bike, altitude and wind/cold gear, spares; limited connectivity - satellite/expedition comms advised. Carry water and filtration.
Basic services in Jomsom (bike-support limited); full support staged from Pokhara.

Hazards & rescue
Altitude, extreme wind/dust, remoteness, and restricted-area rules (Upper Mustang); a guided expedition/race scene, not a marked park.
Guided expedition effectively required, especially for Upper Mustang (restricted area mandates a licensed guide and minimum group).
Remote - evacuation via Jomsom airstrip or jeep road; helicopter rescue and travel insurance strongly advised. VERIFY.
