Punta Ala

Full spread from green (easy) to double-black (Trailforks scale). Center groups its map rides into three tiers: Discovery, Singletrack/Enduro, and Enduro. Hosted Enduro World Series / European Enduro Series stages (e.g. 'Rocco').

Group split works well: beginners ride mellow coastal/Discovery singletrack that all end at the sea, while advanced riders take pedal-up or shuttle-accessed enduro stages (Rocco and others). Uplift is by 4x4 shuttle only (no lift); Tirli is a 100% shuttle hill, Pian d'Alma hill mixes short pedal/push climbs (https://visitpuntaala.bike/en/shuttles/).

Strong for mixed groups and families - easy pedal loops plus expert stages; e-bike, gravel, adaptive and kids options available. Family tour example: ~15 km / ~300 m over ~3 hours to Cala Violina.

Natural forest singletrack over Mediterranean soil, with roots, rock, sandy/loose sections and some fireroad/firebreak climbs; hardpack that gets dusty when dry and slick when wet.

Wide range: flowing family singletrack to steep, rooty/rocky expert enduro stages with optional technical features. Exposure generally low (forested hills), but some steep tech sections warrant appropriate travel bikes and skill.

Signed/colour-coded core network (Discovery, Singletrack/Enduro, Enduro) with interactive Trailforks map, but many trails are deliberately kept off-map; the center strongly recommends a guide or shop advice to avoid getting lost in the maze.

Generally uncrowded compared with alpine parks; can be busier at Easter, on event weekends and in peak summer holiday season, quiet in shoulder months and on lesser-known off-map trails.

Effectively year-round snow-free (low coastal elevation, max ~470 m); center/shop tied to PuntAla Resort season, typically ~April to October with occasional Easter pre-openings.

Spring and autumn are ideal (approx April-June and September-October); mild coastal climate. High summer is rideable but hot and dry, winter is generally mild and green.

Easter pre-opening events and new-trail reveals; venue has hosted Enduro World Series and European Enduro Series races. Off-season/shoulder day-trips to Elba, Massa Marittima and Monte Amiata can be arranged.

Base inside PuntAla Camp & Resort, Pian d'Alma (Punta Ala), off the SP158/coast road between Castiglione della Pescaia and Scarlino; nearest station Follonica, airports Pisa/Florence/Grosseto; ample parking including at Cala Violina/Pian d'Alma.

Bring plenty of water (hot, dry summers); trail-appropriate bike (short-travel fine for XC/Discovery, longer travel for enduro stages). On-site bike wash, storage, mechanic and Giant hire fleet; mobile coverage generally good near coast, patchier deep in forest (est).

Full bike shop with mechanic, hire fleet (e-MTB, MTB up to ~160 mm, gravel, kids), parts/kit sales, free bike wash and overnight storage; resort has bars, cafes and restaurants at the base.

Punta Ala Trail Center itself is the main hub; nearby riding/hubs include Castiglione della Pescaia trails, Bandite di Scarlino, Gavorrano, Massa Marittima and day-trips to Elba and Monte Amiata. Camping PuntAla also offers Specialized workshop/hire.

Heat/dehydration, dusty-loose or (in wet) slick surfaces, steep technical enduro sections, wild boar, and disorientation on the dense off-map trail maze; check with the shop and consider a guide.

Not mandatory, but strongly recommended given many off-map trails; qualified in-house guides run tours for all levels and the shop advises on trail conditions before you head out.

Low-elevation, road- and fireroad-laced terrain means multiple exit points and relatively easy vehicle/shuttle access; Italian emergency number 112. Trails funnel down to the coast road and resort base. (Specifics -)
