Also known as: Willingen
Ettelsberg summit with the Hochheideturm viewing tower and heath (Hochheide), panoramas over the Upland/Rothaargebirge; the landmark Muehlenkopfschanze ski-jump sits in Willingen below.

Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Bikepark Willingen - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.
UK/Euro color grading (per Trailforks and MTB Zone): green (easy), blue (intermediate), red (advanced/difficult), black and double-black (expert). Trailforks confirms the region uses the UK/Euro style system.
GROUP SPLIT: easier flow trails sit on the right side served by the K1 8-seater chairlift (Koehlerhagen); the harder downhill/enduro/freeride lines are on the left side served by the Ettelsberg cable car. Groups can split by side/lift and regroup at the shared valley base station; sessions shorten simply by stopping laps.
Strong mixed-ability fit - family/beginner offering (Flow Country Trail, training parcours, bike school, kids courses) alongside expert gravity trails. Rentals and coaching on site suit novices and pros in one group.
Forested low-mountain (Mittelgebirge) terrain: loamy forest soil, roots, embedded rock and gravel on natural lines; machine-groomed dirt berms, tables and rollers on the flow trails.
Wide range: machine-built bermed flow trails (rollable) up to steep, rocky, rooty double-black downhill (Diddie Schneider-built World Cup track) and pro jump line 'Jump or Leave'. Low alpine exposure - forested Mittelgebirge, no high-mountain drop-offs.
Well-signed, color-graded park trails with map/info boards at the lift stations; also mapped on Trailforks. Easy to navigate; no route-finding skill needed.
Popular and can be busy on summer weekends, holidays and especially during the late-May Bike Festival; expect lift queues at peak times, quieter midweek.
Bike park season roughly late March/early April to early November (2026 season posted as Mar 28-Nov 8); lifts run daily ~09:00-17:00 in season.
Late spring through autumn; peak riding June-September (Trailforks ride-log peaks: August, July, June).
Verified UCI history: hosted UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill and Four-Cross rounds in 2005 and 2006 (the DH track was built by Diddie Schneider for those World Cups). NOTE: no primary evidence found that Willingen hosted a UCI XCO World Cup in 2023-2024 - that appears to be an error; the recurring headline events are the annual Bike Festival Willingen (late May) and the iXS German Downhill Cup, plus German Championship stages.
Rain turns rooty/rocky natural trails (downhill, enduro) slick and dangerous; summer thunderstorms and low-mountain fog at the ~850 m summit; cold, wet shoulder-season conditions.
Paid lift/day tickets or a points-based Gravity Card required to ride; no permit lottery. Bike transport is included with lift tickets.
Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.
Willingen (Upland), Waldeck-Frankenberg district, Hessen. By car via B251; parking at the valley lift stations. Willingen (Upland) rail station is within walking distance of the park.
Lift uplift is the shuttle: the Ettelsberg cable car (Kabinenbahn) and the K1 8-seater chairlift (Koehlerhagen) carry bikes daily ~09:00-17:00 through the season.
Full-face helmet and body protection recommended for gravity/downhill trails; full rental fleet and workshop on site. Mobile coverage generally usable in and around the resort.
Two bike rental shops/stations at the lifts, bike school, workshop/service, food service, pump track and a training parcours; ticket office at the base.
MTB Zone bike school (on site); Snow & Bike Factory shop in Willingen; Bikepark Winterberg is a short drive away as a sister gravity hub in the Sauerland.
High-speed flow, large jumps on the freeride and 'Jump or Leave' pro line, and the steep rocky/rooty former World Cup downhill; other riders and wet roots are the main risks. Choose lines within ability.
None required - self-guided riding. Optional lessons/camps via the on-site MTB Zone bike school and BIKE Academy sessions.
Forest/access roads cross the mountain giving bail-out points back to the valley base; park staff/patrol on site; German emergency number 112.
