Whether everyone in your group gets a day at Filthy Trails - the grades on offer, the named zones, and how mixed abilities split up.

What this network spans
Grades 1 to 51-5 (est)
Local grading

Mixed beginner-to-pro lines - Snake (beginner), Singletrack (intermediate berms/doubles/small drops), plus Boogie and Wings; expert features include large gaps, step-ups, north-shore and drops.

Zones & variants

GROUP SPLIT by line difficulty - beginners on Snake, intermediates on the Singletrack, experts on gap/step-up/north-shore lines. NO lift or shuttle uplift; riders push or pedal back to the top each lap.

Accessibility & group fit

Historically catered to all levels (beginner drops through pro jump lines) with bike/protector rental and skills courses; family/mixed-ability friendly on easier lines (est).

The riding

Terrain

Sandy forest/heath soil within a nature reserve; hand-built jumps, berms and wooden north-shore structures; private fenced site cited at approx 1 km2.

Technical demands

Very jump-oriented (built for airtime) with gaps, step-ups, wallrides, wooden north-shore elements and drops; sandy natural surfaces.

Navigation

- Compact fenced private park; lines self-evident rather than long waymarked routes.

Crowds

Busy on weekends, a regional hub for riders from the tri-border area; quiet midweek (historic).

Season & conditions

Open window

Historically approx Tue-Sun (weekends in winter), approx 10:00-17:00 (to 19:00 in summer), weather-dependent. Current status: effectively closed (reported end of 2017).

Best season

Spring to autumn; small parks like this also opened opportunistically in mild winter spells.

Seasonal specials

Occasional skills/technique courses and photo shoots; peak footfall up to approx 5,000 riders/year (historic).

Weather-dependent opening; sandy soil affected by heavy rain; no all-weather guarantee.

Getting there & gear

Historically approx EUR 9 day ticket; no lottery.

Permits and operators change - confirm before booking.

Trailhead access

Large car park at the nature-park entrance; the park itself is a roughly 5-minute pedal in (no direct car access inside the reserve). Roughly one hour by car from Cologne.

Transport & shuttles

No shuttle/uplift. Private car to the reserve car park, then ride in.

Bike & gear

Bring own food and water; bike and protector rental historically available; helmet/protection strongly advised for jump lines.

Facilities

Historically parking, bike/protector rental and skills courses; minimal on-site catering (BYO food/drink advised).

Operators

Founder/operator historically Styles Hanssens. Regional alternatives now include Bikepark Kattevennen (Genk), Genkertrails (Waterschei), Bikepark Be-Mine (Beringen) and Dutch parks around Maastricht.

Hazards & rescue

Hazards

High-consequence jump/gap features; park subject to a dispute with the Flemish nature agency (Agentschap voor Natuur en Bos) and is reported CLOSED - verify status before any visit; official website is defunct/hijacked. Briefed Malle/Antwerp location and shuttle uplift could not be verified and appear incorrect (actual site: Maasmechelen, Limburg, push-up park).

Guiding

Not required; skills clinics/coaching were offered by the operator.

Emergency & rescue

- Compact fenced site near the reserve entrance; no specific rescue provision documented; emergency 112.
