GROUP SPLIT - no beginner variant on this expert-only descent; beginners go to Bikepark Innsbruck/Muttereralm. Uplift historically via Hungerburgbahn funicular (Congress/Altstadt base to Hungerburg) then Seegrubenbahn cable car to Seegrube.
Experts only, not for families or beginners; helmet compulsory, ride at own risk. Beginners directed to Bikepark Innsbruck (Mutters/Gotzens) and Muttereralm.
The riding
Rooty, rocky, loose/blocked steep singletrack.
High-alpine, extremely steep (up to about 36 degrees), narrow switchbacks, loose ground, large drops, marked scout-first passages; experts/pros only.
Historically always easy to follow via the gravel road from Seegrube; on-ground waymarking now effectively gone (trail dismantled/renaturated).
Trailforks less popular / light traffic (about 140 recorded activities), reflecting niche expert use and now closure.
Season & conditions
Cable-car summer operation about late April to early November (tariff validity Apr 25-Nov 1, 2026); note trail itself permanently closed.
High-alpine summer; most-ridden July and September.
Nordkette Downhill.PRO race historically held here (4.2 km course mixing about 10 World Cup pros with up to about 90 amateurs; 2013 won by Benedikt Purner, 2014 by Marcelo Gutierrez). Crankworx Innsbruck is at Bikepark Innsbruck, not Nordkette.
High-alpine exposed north-face terrain - fog, rapid weather change, cold at altitude (Hafelekar 8-12 C in mid-July vs about 25 C in valley).
