Purpose-built machine- and hand-built singletrack; dirt with rock features, berms, dry-stone walls, log rides and a clapper bridge. Forested surface holds up in wet reasonably well.

Technical demands

North-South Track is flowing intermediate singletrack with berms, dry-stone walls, log rides and a stone clapper bridge over New Town Rivulet; optional harder side loops. Glenorchy park has steep black downhill and jump lines. Limited exposure; forested.

Navigation

Waymarked and mapped on Trailforks and Greater Hobart Trails; junction signage in Glenorchy MTB Park and along the North-South Track. Generally easy to follow.

Crowds

Popular with Hobart locals, especially weekends; Glenorchy base park busy with families and gravity riders.

Season & conditions

Open window

Lower trails effectively snow-free year-round; upper kunanyi/Springs area can see snow and closures in winter storms.

Best season

Rideable year-round; spring to autumn (Oct-Apr) most reliable. Winter rides possible at lower Glenorchy elevations.

kunanyi is exposed to rapid weather change; cold, wind, rain and occasional snow at The Springs even in shoulder seasons. Lower park drier and milder.

Trailhead access

Glenorchy MTB Park trailhead at end of Tolosa St, Glenorchy, with free parking; short drive from Hobart CBD. Upper access via The Springs on Pinnacle Rd, kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

Transport & shuttles

Commercial shuttles run Glenorchy/South Hobart to The Springs for the North-South descent (e.g. Tasmanian Mountain Bike Adventures); shuttle approx 50 min. Self-shuttle also possible.

Bike & gear

Carry water; limited on-trail water. Mobile coverage generally good near Hobart, patchier on upper mountain. Standard trail bike suffices; gravity bike for park downhill.

Free parking at Tolosa St trailhead; The Springs has toilets and shelter. Cafe/bike services in Glenorchy. Additional trailhead facilities proposed in council masterplan.
